Olaplex Acquires Purvala Bioscience to Accelerate Hair Health Innovation

Prestige hair care leader Olaplex Holdings Inc. has announced its first-ever acquisition: Purvala Bioscience, a Boston-based biotech company specializing in bioinspired molecules for health and beauty. The move signals Olaplex’s deepening commitment to scientific innovation and next-generation product development.
Founded in 2020 by Dr. Bradley Olsen, Professor of Chemical Engineering at MIT, Purvala Bioscience has built a reputation for designing high-performing molecules modeled on naturally occurring biological structures. Its technologies span protein-lipid bioconjugates and keratin-binding proteins—offering new possibilities for repairing and reshaping hair without harsh chemicals.
“Scientific breakthroughs are what continue to inspire us,” said Amanda Baldwin, CEO of Olaplex. “With Purvala, we see the potential to create the next generation of disruptive, science-backed product innovation alongside our patent-protected bond-building technology, Bis-amino.”
Olaplex’s legacy lies in its Complete Bond Technology™, which strengthens internal disulfide bonds during and after chemical services. Purvala’s innovations complement this by targeting external hair damage—restoring the cuticle and cortex with bioengineered proteins and lipids.
Together, the companies aim to deliver multi-layered hair repair solutions that are effective, sustainable, and stylist-approved.
