P&G set to launch new refillable packaging for Shampoo Brands

With an eye on a greener future P&G brands  Head & Shoulders, Pantene, Herbal Essences and Aussie will implement the refill system for its shampoo products. Scheduled to launch in 2021, these brands will go about ‘turning the tide on plastic waste,” P&G’s Senior VP and General Manager of Haircare, Artur Litarowicz said, while announcing the packaging innovation. Under the packaging initiative, called the ‘good refill system,’ the products can be purchased in aluminium bottles and then refilled with recyclable refill pouches, made using 60% less plastic.  P&G says it is on track to reduce virgin plastic usage by 50% in shampoo and conditioner bottles by the end of 2021. This initiative is being announced in European markets and it remains to be seen, when will Asia figure in the scheme of things. Aside from Beauty, the Fabric care division is targetting a 30% reduction in plastics use by 2025. In recent times many other brands including ‘ The Body Shop’ have opted for in-store refill models.
