SFD and SFDP Warn Against Risks of Beauty Practices on Children

The Société Française de Dermatologie (SFD) and the Société Française de Dermatologie Pédiatrique (SFDP) have issued a warning about the potential risks associated with beauty and cosmetic practices on children. This alert comes in response to the increasing number of beauty salons and products catering specifically to young children.

The key concerns highlighted by SFD and SFDP include the delicate and sensitive nature of children’s skin, making it more susceptible to irritation and allergic reactions. The use of certain cosmetic products can lead to severe allergic reactions, and some products can increase photosensitivity, leading to potential skin damage. Additionally, there are risks of accidental ingestion of cosmetic products, which can be harmful or toxic, and concerns about ingredients suspected of being endocrine disruptors that could affect hormonal balance.

 To mitigate these risks, the SFD and SFDP recommend avoiding unnecessary cosmetic products for children, proper storage of cosmetics out of reach of children, educating parents on the safe use of cosmetic products and the importance of choosing age-appropriate products, and ensuring that all cosmetic products used on children comply with stringent regulations to guarantee safety. The SFD and SFDP emphasize the importance of prioritizing children’s health and safety when it comes to beauty and cosmetic practices and urge parents and guardians to be vigilant and informed about the products they use on their children.
