In a bold departure from conventional retirement plans, Dr. Reshmy Rajasekharan (45), a scientist and educator, and her husband Padmakumar K (53), a Gulf-returned accountant, have launched Cellupro Green Pvt Ltd—a startup transforming agricultural waste into high-performance cosmetic ingredients.

Based in Alappuzha, Kerala, the duo’s innovation centers on extracting sustainable cellulose pulp from agri-residues like banana stems, coconut husks, and sugarcane bagasse. This pulp serves as a biodegradable base for skincare and personal care formulations, offering an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic polymers and microplastics.

What Sets Cellupro Green Apart:

– Zero-waste processing of locally sourced agri-waste

– Biodegradable cellulose for creams, masks, and exfoliants

– Potential applications in pharma, packaging, and textiles

The venture reflects a growing trend in India’s beauty ecosystem—where scientific rigor meets sustainability and regional pride. “We wanted to build something that’s good for the planet and rooted in Kerala’s agricultural heritage,” said Dr. Rajasekharan , when contacted by the media.
