K-Beauty Dives Deeper with Fish Gut Bacteria promise

Korean researchers have once again pushed the boundaries of cosmetic science—this time by diving into the microbiome of fish guts. Scientists from Sungkyunkwan University have discovered 22 novel molecules produced by gut bacteria found in red and blackhead sea bream, with three showing exceptional potential as anti-wrinkle and skin-brightening agents.

These molecules, derived from *Ruegeria atlantica* and *Pseudoalteromonas neustonica*, were tested on lab-grown mouse cells. The standout trio from red sea bream bacteria inhibited both tyrosinase (linked to pigmentation) and collagenase (linked to skin aging) without harming the cells.

This breakthrough could mark the next wave of K-beauty innovation—following in the footsteps of snail mucin and fermented ingredients—with marine microbiota leading the charge.
