L’Oréal Unveils Breakthrough in Anti-Aging Skincare with Crystallized Live Probiotics

L’Oréal has filed a patent for a topical skincare formulation containing crystallized live probiotics, marking a major advancement in microbiome-based anti-aging solutions.
The formula, developed following L’Oréal’s 2023 acquisition of Danish microbiome research firm Lactobio, is designed to reverse signs of aging by modulating the skin microbiome. Research suggests that skin microbiome diversity increases with age, while beneficial bacteria like Lactobacillus decline—potentially accelerating wrinkles and pigmentation.
L’Oréal’s new formulation reintroduces live Lactobacillus, which produces antimicrobial metabolites and organic acids to restore a youthful microbiome balance. Clinical trials showed visible improvements in wrinkles, pigmentation, hydration, and elasticity after 28 days, with even greater results after 56 days.
The crystallized delivery system ensures that the probiotics remain viable on the skin for up to 12 hours, maximizing their effectiveness.
This innovation aligns with L’Oréal’s broader commitment to microbiome research, reinforcing its position at the forefront of science-driven skincare.
