Manisha Kapoor appointed as ASCI’s new Secretary-General

Come September, and, Manisha Kapoor will be elevated to the post of Secretary-General of The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI). She will take over from Shweta Purandare, who joined  ASCI’s secretariat eight years ago as Chief Complaints Officer and took over in 2014 as the Secretary-General. Kapoor will take over ASCI’s secretariat responsibilities, including the consumer complaints redressal process, public relations and social media initiatives. She has been with the body for the last five years. It was during Purandare’s tenure, say, marketers, that the body got teeth; when ASCI launched its WhatsApp number; set up new complaint redressal and review processes, and developing a proactive social media presence. She was instrumental in enabling ASCI’s closer engagement with the regulators resulting in ASCI signing MoUs with the Department of Consumer Affairs, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Ministry of AYUSH. Purandare said: “It has been an extremely enriching experience professionally through which I could contribute to ASCI’s transformation in terms of capacity, capabilities and stature. As I move on to undertake a new journey, I wish Kapoor the very best.” Kapoor has more than two decades of experience, working with global giants like Unilever and J&J, and with consulting firms including MarketGate Consulting and with Futurebrands Consulting on brand development and strategy.
