Honasa Consumer Acquires CosmoGenesis Labs to Expand Skincare Innovation

Honasa Consumer, the parent company of popular brands like Mamaearth and The Derma Co, has announced the acquisition of CosmoGenesis Labs for INR 4 crore (approximately $490,000). This strategic move is aimed at enhancing Honasa’s research and development capabilities in the premium skincare segment.

Founded in 2011 by Rohini Manoj, CosmoGenesis Labs has established a strong reputation in the cosmetic formulation and development sector, supporting over 5000 cosmetic formulations. The acquisition includes CosmoGenesis’ extensive formulation expertise, R&D labs, and a small manufacturing facility. Rohini Manoj will join Honasa as Vice President of R&D, further strengthening the company’s innovation efforts.

Honasa Consumer, known for its commitment to clean and natural beauty products, sees this acquisition as a significant step towards expanding its product offerings and staying ahead of market trends. The company, which went public last year, has been actively acquiring brands to bolster its market position. Previous acquisitions include BBlunt, Dr. Sheth’s, and the recent launch of a new color cosmetics brand, Staze​ .

The acquisition of CosmoGenesis Labs is expected to be completed within the next four to six weeks and is anticipated to significantly boost Honasa’s ability to innovate and deliver high-quality skincare products tailored to the Indian market. This move aligns with Honasa’s broader strategy of leveraging advanced research and development to meet the evolving needs of consumers​ ​.

The firm reported a net profit of Rs 30.4 crore for the quarter ended March 2024, against a loss of loss of Rs 161.7 crore in the year-ago quarter. Revenue from operations in the fourth quarter increased 21% on year to Rs 471 crore.
