Kerala Soaps Expands to Gulf Markets with Premium Sandalwood Products

According to a press release, Kerala Soaps, a century-old public sector undertaking under Kerala State Industrial Enterprises (KSIE), is set to begin exporting its premium sandalwood-based bathing bars and other niche products to Gulf countries. This market expansion was officially launched by Industries Minister P. Rajeev recently. The Minister also unveiled eight additional products from Kerala Soaps.

KSIE Chairman Peelipose Thomas highlighted that this move aims to strengthen Kerala Soaps’ presence in the international market. The brand’s bathing bars are infused with pure sandal extracts from the Marayoor forests in the Western Ghats, Idukki. The new products, all under the Kerala Sandal label, include liquid sandal and neem handwash, Washwell (detergent), Cleanwell (floor cleaner), Shinewell (dish wash), and toilet soaps such as Kohinoor Sandal Turmeric, Thrill Lavender, Thrill Rose, and Thrill White.

Established in 1914 during British rule as The Kerala Soap Institute in Kozhikode, it was once the largest training establishment of its kind in Asia. Its soaps quickly gained popularity, even among the viceroy. The Kerala government took over the company in 1964, and after periods of lockdown, KSIE assumed control in 2010.

Today, Kerala Soaps boasts state-of-the-art automatic machinery capable of producing 12,000 metric tons of soap annually. This expansion marks a significant step in the company’s journey towards global market presence.
