L’Oréal–UNESCO For Women in Science Awards 2025 Honor Five Pioneering Researchers

The L’Oréal–UNESCO For Women in Science International Awards have recognized five exceptional women scientists for their contributions to physical sciences, mathematics, and computer science.

Selected from 466 nominees, the 2025 laureates represent five global regions: Africa & the Arab States, Asia & the Pacific, Europe, Latin America & the Caribbean, and North America. Their research spans data security, green energy, air pollution, real-time health monitoring, and fundamental physics, with potential to revolutionize technology and improve global resilience.

Among the winners:

Professor Priscilla Baker (Africa & the Arab States) – Honored for her work in electrochemical microsensors for detecting environmental contaminants, with applications in pharmaceuticals, food, health, and energy.

Professor Xiaoyun Wang (Asia & the Pacific) – Recognized for her contributions to cryptography and applied mathematics, improving secure data communication and storage.

The awards, now in their 27th year, continue to elevate women’s contributions to science, addressing gender disparities in research. Since its inception, the program has supported over 4,700 women scientists, with seven past laureates later receiving Nobel Prizes.
