Music & Fragrances – a concept in tunes with times

Artificial Intelligence is Revolutionizing Fragrance Development- Is it a threat to creativity?

Recently, I was a part of a cohort on Advanced Perfumery course in Dubai, wherein we were introduced to several compounds and as a part of project, we had to prepare an accord based on the visuals shown to us or some kind of inspirations (Moodboards)

Personally, while creating accords, I found easier to decode the brief or visuals into either celebrities (actors, actresses from the movies) or with the some musical intrument , like musical chords of guitar, santoor (indian musical intrument) or even sitar.

In one of the project, I created a scent which was my representation of the lead actress in webseries – Emily in Paris (Netflix).

Creating scents is my new found creative hobby.

On researching, I found that scents and musical chords strike a perfect balance in developing your scent and also for training your nose.

Music & Scents- A sensory experience.

The sensory experience, between the senses of hearing and smell, has also inspired other perfume players, as can be seen with Maison Diptyque, also in central Paris: an ephemeral species has turned into a listening station dedicated to jazz to launch the Orphéon Eau de toilette.

The Initio Mixtape, a playlist set up by pop group Kid Francescoli, available on Spotify, it unfolds each collection into a musical world, a sensory connection crafted to amplify perception, memory, and desire.

I recall my trip to Milan in 2019 to attend Esxence exhibition, wherein i witnessed how both the sensory experience converge to deliver a very functional experience (music +fragrance)

Below are some of the pics from the show.

Personal Learning:

While crafting a balanced scent, it is important to balance all the notes & ingredients perfectly and slightly accentuating couple of notes to create a lift and overall sharpness of the initial notes. To train a nose, it is useful to benchmark it with musical notes (personally i love movies, music alot)

If you try to blend Music & scents then you are not developing a product but, “It is more like offering a performance than selling a product.”
