Drunk Elephant Recalls 3 Products Over Ingredient Mix-Up

Popular skincare brand Drunk Elephant has issued a voluntary recall for three of its products due to an ingredient mix-up during production.

The affected products are the Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser, Protini Polypeptide Cream, and Lala Retro Whipped Cream. The recall was announced on November 16, 2024, and customers are being urged to discontinue use of the affected products immediately.

Details of the Recall

The mix-up involved an incorrect combination of preservatives and surfactants, which compromised the formulation of certain batches.

  • Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser: Contains an additional preservative, Microkill COS, not listed on the product’s ingredient list. This ingredient may cause skin irritation in individuals with sensitivities.
  • Protini Polypeptide Cream: Contains the surfactant Mirataine CBS, also not listed on the ingredient list. This ingredient may cause a temporary adverse skin reaction in those with specific sensitivities.
  • Lala Retro Whipped Cream: Lacks the usual preservative system, allowing for microbial growth. Some batches were found to contain yeast, including Candida parapsilosis, which could increase the risk of infection.


    Drunk Elephant is offering full refunds and replacements for the affected products. Customers can check the lot codes on the product packaging to determine if their items are part of the recall. The lot codes can be found on the back, top, or bottom of the product packaging.

    Drunk Elephant has emphasized that customer safety and satisfaction are their top priorities. The company has apologized for any inconvenience caused and is working to resolve the issue promptly.
