BASF Achieves Cosmetic Ingredient Notification for Symbiocell in China

BASF’s Personal Care business has recently succeeded in obtaining a new cosmetic ingredient notification for Symbiocell® in China. This marks a significant milestone for BASF as it expands its portfolio of innovative ingredients tailored for sensitive skin care.

Symbiocell®, a unique active ingredient based on a natural plant extract of Cestrum latifolium leaves, focuses on soothing sensitive skin and reducing excessive cutaneous reactions. The ingredient has been clinically tested and proven to decrease the level of skin reactivity and discomfort in volunteers with sensitive skin.

Symbiocell® effectively soothes sensitive skin and potentially excessive cutaneous reactions. A double-blind clinical study demonstrated that a 2% concentration of Symbiocell® in a face care formulation significantly reduced cutaneous discomfort by 62% compared to a benchmark product. 97% of volunteers reported that the side of their face treated with Symbiocell® felt increasingly comforted and soothed.

The development of Symbiocell® aligns with the growing consumer trend for cosmetic products that address common sensitive skin concerns, particularly in the Asia Pacific region. With the new cosmetic ingredient notification, Symbiocell® can now be commercialized as a cosmetic ingredient in China, further expanding BASF’s presence in the personal care market.
