The Sustainable Beauty Coalition leads the Charge for Eco-Friendly Beauty

The Sustainable Beauty Coalition (SBC), an initiative by the British Beauty Council, is making waves in the beauty industry with its commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices. The coalition aims to tackle the pressing issue of beauty industry waste and promote recycling and refill initiatives among consumers and brands alike.

The Great British Beauty Clean Up campaign , scheduled to launch in March 2025 during Waste Week (March 3-9), seeks to drastically reduce beauty industry waste. The initiative encourages consumers to recycle beauty products and educates them on the importance of reducing, reusing, and refilling. The SBC has developed an interactive map on its website, allowing consumers to locate nearby recycling schemes across the UK. This tool aims to make recycling more accessible and convenient for everyone. The coalition has garnered support from 21 retailers, including L’Occitane, who have expressed interest in participating in the recycling initiative. This collective effort is expected to significantly increase beauty recycling rates and reduce landfill waste. The SBC’s efforts are driven by the alarming statistics revealed in the British Beauty Council’s “The Courage to Change” report, which states that the beauty industry produces over 120 billion units of packaging annually, with a third of all landfill waste coming from beauty products. The coalition’s initiatives are designed to address these challenges and promote a more sustainable beauty industry.
