Coty partners with LanzaTech to introduce sustainable ethanol

Beauty major COTY, has signed a letter of intent to partner with LanzaTech to introduce sustainable ethanol made from captured-carbon emissions into its fragrance products. Ethanol, a core ingredient in fragrances is used to enable the efficient dispersion of the perfume. Ethanol is sourced from grains and crops with high starch and sugar content such as corn, sorghum, barley, sugar cane, and sugar beets which use land , water and fertilizers.

LanzaTech is a leader in the production of nextgen ethanol using new technology that works by capturing industrial emissions and processing them in more sustainable way. The new sustainable ethanol from carbon-capture utilizes near-zero water consumption and reduces the requirement for agricultural land which, in turn, supports biodiversity.

With sustainability being a driver of innovation , Coty’s  commitment to sustainability and consumer’s demand for truly green and clean products, the partnership makes commercial sense according to the beauty major. Coty’s ambitious ‘Beauty That Lasts’ strategy – which is guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – sets out a range of time-bound targets, including a 30% reduction in absolute CO2 emissions by 2030.
