Kellogg joins‘Symrise and Friends’ family

Symrise and Kellogg Company have come together in an alliance in a joint three-year project in Madagascar to responsibly source 100% of Kellogg’s vanilla by 2020. In 2019, Kellogg had joined the growing “Symrise and Friends” family to work together on a shared collective commitment to deliver synergistic benefits for the vanilla farming communities and the bio-diverse environment in which they live. The approach is based on living close to and working closely with farmers to foster good agricultural practices and manage cash flows. This leads to the farmer feeling empowered to not only run their farms sustainably but also manage finances in a volatile market. Presently the initiative is working with the vanilla farming communities of Ankavanana, Madagascar. Symrise’s holistic approach also includes training and education within the communities and the introduction of alternative crops like Patchouli, Vetiver and Ginger. This adds diversity and mitigates risk. The joint partnership between Kellogg and Symrise provides ongoing engagement and training for over 1,000 Malagasy smallholder vanilla farmers. Symrise in Europe and Madagascar worked with Kellogg’s teams in the United States and Australia.
