Aditi Rao Hydari announces launch of  L’oreal Paris ‘Stand-Up’ Program

On UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2020, L’Oréal Paris has announced the launch of its international bystander intervention training program against street harassment- Stand Up. The program will grow a community of 1 million upstanders, trained in the 5D’s: Direct, Delegate, Document, Distract, Delay. L’Oreal has tied up with NGO Breakthrough to deliver on-ground training in India. The ‘Stand Up’ initiative, has already been launched in various countries like France, Spain, Italy and Mexico.”We have set an ambitious target of training one million people in India under this initiative by 2022-end,” L’Oreal Paris India General Manager Pau Gruart told the media, “L’Oréal Paris stands for empowerment in every walk of a woman’s life. we are committed to elevating their sense of self-worth. Sexual harassment in public spaces is the #1 issue faced by women and girls around the world. With our NGO partner Breakthrough, we invite women and men to safely respond when they see or experience street harassment. Together we can create a world for girls and women a world free from street harassment,” he added.

Speaking at the event, the company’s brand Ambassador Aditi Rao Hydari who underwent the 5Ds training programme said, “Distract and Delay methods worked very well with me as distract requires the creativity to interrupt an incident by asking the time or pretending to be lost. I found it to be effective and timely. I also like the concept of delay where you be a friend and comfort the harassed person after the incident and acknowledge that the behaviour was wrong. It is so important for the victim to know that they are not overreacting and what happened to them was wrong.”
