Detoxophane to activate the skin’s detoxification system

Detoxophane is a purified extract of Swiss garden cress sprouts that enhances the resistance of skin cells against environmental pollutants and intrinsic reactive molecules.

We are all exposed to a multitude of chemicals, heavy metals and environmental pollutants. If our skin is unable to deal with these compounds, they will damage cell membranes, proteins and DNA. Harmful molecules may come from the environment but may even be produced in the body, mainly through cellular energy production. Our cells are therefore in constant danger and need an efficient defence or detoxification system.

There are two steps of the cellular detoxification system, involving two enzyme systems in the degradation of toxic compounds: the phase I enzymes and the phase II / antioxidant enzymes. In a first step, Phase I enzymes enhance the reactivity of the compounds and thus transform relatively harmless precursors into reactive chemicals. Typical members of this phase I are cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes. The antioxidant enzymes in phase II are responsible for the final detoxification step. As typical phase II enzymes, they catalyze the binding of toxic molecules with small hydrophilic groups. The reaction products are more water-soluble and can therefore be excreted. Antioxidant enzymes can directly neutralize oxidants.

Detoxophane is a liposomal preparation of cress sprout extract and contains sulforaphane, a well-known activator of phase II detoxification enzymes. Detoxophane was found to inhibit phase I enzymes and to strongly stimulate phase II / antioxidant enzymes. This combined activity helps to protect skin cells against toxins and reactive, dangerous molecules.

Garden cress (Lepidium sativum) is an aromatic and slightly pungent edible herb. Cultivation of this species, which is native to Persia and spread many centuries ago to Western Europe, has occurred for a very long time. The sprouts of this fast-growing plant have the highest concentration of phytonutrients. These are the compounds in plants that are known for their health-promoting properties.

INCI(EU/PCPC) Declaration: Lepidium Sativum Sprout Extract(and) Glycerin(and) Lecithin (and) Phenoxyethanol (and) Aqua/ Water. Version without preservatives available.

Detoxophane is introduced by Switzerland based Mibelle Biochemistry that designs and develops unique, high-quality actives primarily based on naturally derived compounds for the cosmetics and skincare industry. The Mibelle Biochemistry portfolio is available in India with Anshul Life Sciences.
